Testing of Refractories is important for assessing material characteristics as well as to ensure suitability of that refractory product for its desired applications. In recent years due to heavy increase in the volume of refractory production coupled with load of variety of services, several methods are being devised for rapid testing and exact determination of the quality of Refractories and their suitability for a specified application. But most of these methods are generally devised keeping in mind of the peculiarities of a given plant and so they are often too specific to give a complete picture about the materials. There lies the necessity of refractory standards and also setting standard methods for testing of refractories and refractory materials to ensure good quality and workmanship towards safe utilization.
